Speed Training for Kids: Build Game-Ready Agility

When it comes to soccer, speed isn't just about running in a straight line—it's about reacting, adapting, and staying in control when the game gets chaotic. That’s exactly what today’s training is all about: real-game speed.

This session builds on our warm-up post and uses the same field setup—3x2 cones over a 10x5m (approx. 33x16ft) space.

What You Need:

Drill 1: Raw Speed (No Ball)

This one's all about explosive speed and reaction.

  • Run as fast as you can between cones in no set pattern.

  • Sharp turns, quick stops—just like a real game.

  • Go hard for 15 sec, then rest for 30 sec

  • Repeat 6–9 times, depending on age and energy.

  • Rest 2 min before the next round.

💡 Coach’s tip from my dad: “No patterns. The game never follows one either.”

Drill 2: Fast Feet + Ball Control

Time to bring in the ball.

  • Dribble through the cones at full speed—again, no pattern.

  • Focus on fast footwork while keeping control.

  • Same timing: 15 sec work / 30 sec rest

  • Repeat for 6–9 rounds

Watch for: touches getting too big when speeding up. The goal is speed with the ball, not without it.

BONUS: Random Dribble Challenge

  • 6x freestyle dribbles through the cone area

  • Let the player move as they like—turns, feints, bursts

  • Builds creativity + control

Let’s Build Real-Game Speed

Speed is a skill—especially when it’s chaotic, messy, and unplanned. That’s what we’re building here.
