Crispy Baked Tofu with Soy-Garlic Marinade

About the Recipe

Ingredients

  • 28 oz (800 g) firm tofu

  • 1 clove garlic, minced

  • 1 small red chili pepper, finely chopped (adjust for spice level)

  • 4 tbsp low-sodium soy sauce (Japanese-style if available)

  • 1 tbsp honey (or maple syrup for a vegan version)

  • 3 tbsp canola oil (or other neutral oil)

Preparation

  1. Drain & Press the Tofu

    Place tofu between paper towels or a clean kitchen cloth. Gently press to remove excess moisture.This step helps it get crispier in the oven!

  2. Cube the Tofu

    Cut into bite-sized cubes (about 1 inch / 2.5 cm).

  3. Mix the Marinade

    In a large bowl, stir together soy sauce, honey or maple syrup, oil, garlic, and chili.

  4. Marinate

    Add tofu cubes to the bowl and gently toss to coat. Let sit for 20 minutes to soak up flavor.

  5. Bake

    Preheat oven to 435°F (225°C).Spread tofu on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.Bake for 20–30 minutes, flipping once halfway through, until golden and slightly crispy.


 Serve with:

  • Steamed basmati rice

  • Sliced cucumber for crunch

  • A splash of soy sauce for dipping
