You know the drill—it's 15 minutes before soccer practice, everyone's hungry, and somehow a bag of chips always sneaks into the car. We've all been there. But what if we could replace the usual ultra-processed snacks with something just as tasty, way more nourishing, and inspired by the way I grew up in Sweden?
Highly processed snacks are everywhere, and the problem is (besides from being bad for the body) they don’t give kids (or moms!) the lasting energy they need.

Want to make some changes in your snack habits?
Toss This | Try This Instead |
Potato Chips | Apple slices with peanut butter or cinnamon |
Fruit Snacks | Real fruit: blueberries, raspberries, or dried mango with no added sugar |
Candy Bars | Homemade or store-bought energy balls (made with dates, oats, cocoa) |
Cookies | Crispbread with cream cheese and strawberries |
Sugary Yogurt | Plain Greek yogurt with honey + berries |
How to Make the Shift (Without Complaints from the Kids!)
Make snacks visible—keep a fruit bowl where kids can reach it.
Involve your kids in making energy bites or building their own parfait cups.
Keep grab-and-go options prepped ahead for busy soccer days.
Lead by example: munch on berries instead of chips and they'll follow.
"Healthy snacks don’t have to be boring or complicated. With just a few tweaks, you can transform snack time into something delicious, energizing, and deeply rooted in the simplicity of Nordic life. Your kids will feel the difference—and so will you!"
